Within the broader topic of decay, I find myself particularly interested in
the decomposition of animals through the meat industry. Inspired
initially by the decay of everything from food to human and animal
bodies, I have tried to collate fine details which interest me from my own
photography of the taxidermy process and stills from the butchers in
Ridley Road Market in London.
This dense and finely detailed collection of textiles has been sensitively
created to emulate the earthy colours, juxtaposition of textures and
delicate detail captured in my research. Through looking at the
garments worn by old fashioned butchers, I want to create a collection
of garments which emulate the tailoring and precision in the uniform,
yet where the textile itself apposes this idea and creates a rustic and
rugged series of layers drawing the eye to fine details such as stitch
work and needle punching.
