Description:

Model of SS Harpathian.
SS Harpathian' was torpedoed by a German submarine in position 32deg 22'N 22deg 53'W. (In Atlantic Ocean west of Canary Islands.) on the 8th. April 1941. The crew landed on Teneriffe and Las Palmas - four men being lost. The Master was Captain J. Wharton who was a survivor. (Captain Wharton, who survived the War, continued in the Service of the Company until his retirement in the late 60's and was the most decorated Merchant Navy Officer of the 1939/45 War.)

Plaque reads "SS Harpathian, Built by Batram & Sons Ltd, Sunderland, for Messrs J & C Harrison Ltd, London"
