Description:

Artist statement:
I am fascinated by what materials can do, what forms they can take (that they not have been designed for), the variety ofmaking them, processes you can subject them to and how that actually changes them. Through exploring material making, I undertake a significant amount of “research” about the materials themselves and what you do with them – “thinking through making.”
Each hand made material in my work radiates and thrives in the unusual mix of the organic and waste matter. My work centres on methodologies of making and understanding the process of the materials and sharing this with audiences. My materials evolve through trial and error. I share a passion for innovation and experimentation. What does materiality mean to me? - I suggest it revolves around a careful examination of different physical properties and importantly their ingredients. Most often, I let my ideas or concepts for a particular work lead me to or from the material. Sometimes, I feel that the ‘material finds’ me.
