Artist's Statement

This drawing is from notes made for paintings to be completed in my first year at Gray's. I was seventeen at the time. I returned to Hamilton Brothers engineering firm in subsequent years and kept a large Bushey sketchbook with drawings of the men, and later ideas for painting based on the various kinds of steel works the yard produced. There were floating targets used for practice by RNAS aircraft from Lossiemouth. These were excellent sources of ideas. I have no idea where the sketchbook is now, therefore this drawing is all that remains from that time.
