Description:

The basis of Re-construct is a sharing and recycling centre for unused building materials. From the 24 companies I interviewed within Edinburgh city centre i found out that 80% of the companies admitted they had excess materials after each job and out of those 60% admitted these materials were thrown away. Thus there were an obvious gap in the market.

Reconstruct would have different uses for different people. Generally commercial companies would bring any leftover materials to the centre and would gain credits for what they brought In. They could then use these credits to take away any other materials or exchange them for the hire of machinery or labour.(Credits could be based on quantity and quality, and companies wouldn't just receive credits for any old rubbish that they brought in.

As a designer I always aim to create innovative ideas, in this case the construction industry is a topic which interests me greatly and is one that the Three Dimensional Designer doesn't seem to have had a chance to help innovate or develop on the process side of it. Through the use of some simple services or products, I believe the industry could be made more efficent and less wasteful.
