Project — ‘The Faroe Islands: A Different Kind of Museum’

Statement —

I chose to explore the Faroe Islands as a large part of my family comes from there but at the time I felt like I didn’t have a lot of knowledge of the islands. This project presented itself as an opportunity to learn a lot about where I come from. As a creative practitioner, I enjoy creating a functional, interactive piece of print work — and using illustration as a means of communication — this was the perfect combination. I also have a passion for design history, and in developing this project I explored Mid Century illustration as a point of reference and created a unique style. I wanted to show the diversity of the Faroe Islands, showing how they can be very colourful and charming but also dramatic and striking. This tourist guide has something for everyone; designing outputs more appropriate for adults or children allowed me to explore different kinds of visual language. Overall, this project presents my illustration in a context that allows people to interact with it.
A double sided fold out guide to the Faroe Islands. One side features information on Faroese towns and the other side is a map of the Islands
