Artist's statement from show :-

For my final year I have looked at deception within imagery. I have focused on imagery that inspires ambiguity and subliminal fear, which is literal when up close, yet from a distance looks like a pattern comprised of florals. For research I have looked at the Victorian era and its fascination with curios and the bizarre. To compliment this theme I have researched phobias, zoological preservation, mummification, mourning dress and ‘Memento Mori’. I have used mainly digital print, and developed the information I took from mourning dress by introducing occasional appliqué and embroidery. I have also been influenced by the kaleidoscopic butterfly collages of Damien Hirst as well as contemporary Illustration, surrealism and fantasy. My work is intended for vintage styled interiors as either wallpaper or sumptuous bed linen fabrics in silk and velvet.
