Description:

Fabrics have always fascinated me, but not from the point of view of actual dressmaking , but more an exploration of their qualities through representation via paint and collage. To me, this permits my freedom, unhampered by the use of needles and thread and allows me to take the textures and patterns to a different place within my paintings. I began to reflect and contrast the characteristics of the materials and fabrics with the personalities in the paintings and in some cases the figure in the work has become overshadowed and the fabrics have become more important.
This painting was inspired by my employment in a dry cleaners, where I came in contact with a huge variety of delicate, layered, transparent and even plain ugly textiles. I loved the contrast of the material. The title of this painting refers to 'The Scaly Weaver' bird which is seen in the background of the composition. This diminutive bird is known to weaves and stitch an elaborate bird's nest.
Figure composition depicting a woman holding up a blue dress. Through a window a cat hunts a bird on a branch.
