Description:

I painted Seagulls in the year 2000 in the Spring of my 3rd year whilst studying at Gray's School of Art. I remember it quite clearly, I was struggling to know what to paint. In a bout of frustration I left Grays and decided to walk home along the banks of the river Dee back into town. It was on this walk, past the old bridge and main entrance way into Aberdeen that I got attacked by a group of seagulls. A huge flock circled over me, swooping and crawing at me, the noise and commotion was quite scary but I used that as inspiration for this painting. Perhaps it was mating season or the young were nesting somewhere near. I only wish now that I continued painting like this instead of what I went on to do in my final year.
Figurative composition featuring seagulls.
