Description:

Figurative composition featuring two doves and a vase with flowers.
This work is a collaboration with Malcolm McCoig, who printed the separations.


Ian Fleming (1906-1994) was born and studied in Glasgow. He taught at Hospitalfield in Arbroath and Glasgow School of Art, and was later Principal of Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen.

Following his retirement from the Head of School post at Gray's School of Art in 1971, Fleming founded Peacock Printmakers (now Peacock Visual Arts) and Artspace. He is considered one of Scotland's most important twentieth-century etchers. Fleming's inlfuence in the city of Aberdeen resulted in him being awarded an honorary LLD by Aberdeen University and later he was made honorary Doctor of Arts of the Robert Gordon University, of which Gray's School of Art is a component part.

Aberdeen City Council installed a commemorative plaque at 15 Fonthill Road where he lived and worked.
