Description:

Landscape. Trees and cottages behind wall.

Following her work at the post office in Orkney, Sylvia Wishart studied Drawing and Painting as a mature student at Gray's School of Art, from 1955 to 1959. Returning to Gray's in 1969 after teaching in several schools, she took up the role of Drawing and Painting tutor until 1987. She would become one of Scotland's leading contemporary landscape painters, and in 2005 became a full member of the Royal Scottish Academy.
Gentle, sublte colour and tone pervade her compositions, evocative of her beloved Orkney.

This composition, believed to be a Stromness Croft, was painted when the artist was a student at Gray's School of Art.
