Artist’s Statement

State of the world project is inspired by my belief of social responsibility. I am truly convinced that every design professional should use their creative ideas and talent to help communities and societies, especially in regions with poor living conditions. As part of the western society we barely think about what our lives will be like without water and food. There are places is the world where water is a precious commodity while in others it is a basic right.
After reading an extensive body of gruesome data related to water deprivation and its consequences, I decided to create an information graphics video that will show some of the most shocking facts of the modern global society where children are suffering from malnutrition and malaria disease.
I believe that visual language is a powerful tool, it either can be used to sell cookies and gadgets or to influence people to take action and change lives. State of the world video is my attempt to use visual narrative along with statistics and facts to urge people to take action and change the lives of people in need.

In this last year at art school, I have become passionate about social design and in particular how designers can benefit society with their work. During my research, I have learnt a lot about current social issues and how they affect the world population. In this main project, I did not want ti focus on local issues but on the global ones, because I do beleive that people no longer live in closed and local communities and because of globalization and our lifestyles, it all severely affects people in many different parts of the planet. The most imporatant part of my main project is an infographics video, which aims to be inspirational and a call to action for people, asking them to become interested in the current situation in a global sense, and hopefully do their own small acts of human kindness.
