Artist's statement:
"The act of touch is synonymous with being. It is imperative to all aspects of our personal development, informing much in the way of how we learn as well as communicate. Despite the significance of touch as a dimension of the human experience, it is evident that we now occupy a predominantly visual world. Our over dependency on digital media as a form of communication can be perceived to have had a detrimental effect upon the emotional and personal experience of design.
The craft processes undertaken within my studio practice are in direct reaction to this problem. I chose to work with tangible graphics because they satisfy our desire for direct and meaningful communication. Through reassessing the means and quantity in which we depend on technology within the design process, it was my aim to explore the possibilities which arise as a result of combining the efficiency of the computer with the tactile and evocative qualities of handmade elements. It is through such experimentation and creativity that design can maintain its integrity whilst sustaining itself within a culture dictated by mass production and economic restraint."
