Description:

This Ceremonial Mace was commissioned by Aberdeen City Council to mark RGU becoming
a University in 1992 . Gordon Burnett MA RCA designed it with an aluminium core, blackened steel and silver are the
materials used to make the mace. Symbols show the Faculties at the
time together with two shields showing the original RGU Coat of Arms
and the Arms of Aberdeen City Council enamelled by Maureen Edgar.
Malcolm Appleby inlaid the University motto in gold. Two pieces of granite
are included; one of grey representing Aberdeen’s link to that material
and one in black to represent the relevance to the oil industry.
The Mace is used annually during the University Graduation Ceremonies.
