This drawing of Drum Castle tower represents the tower as it existed in 1921 This drawing includes a ground floor plan and a first floor plan.
This drawing is one of a set of drawings representing the development of Scottish castelated architecture in Aberdeenshire between the 13th and 17th centuries. The drawings were created as illustrations for a thesis produced by Aberdeen School of Architecture student Alexander S Reid. The dissertation and portfolio of drawings were presented for the student's final RIBA examination and Reid was awarded the Ashpitel Prize by the RIBA. He also achieved a mark of distinction for his thesis.

“The Ashpitel Prize was founded in the year 1872 as a memorial of the late Mr Arthur Ashpitel. The aim of the annual award was to encourage the study of Architecture by students who distinguish themselves most highly in any one of the final examinations held during the year, and whom the board recommend as deserving of such honour”
