Object Type: Painting: Abstract
Artist/Maker: Wilson, George
Media/Materials: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 25 cm x 35.5 cm
Figurative composition with the inscription "Conjuror by the Three Kings."
This composition with the inscription "Conjuror by the Three Kings" was painted by Gray's school of Art student George Wilson from Portknockie. With generations of family following the fishing industry, George was influenced by the links with the sea and fishing. He followed in his brothers' footsteps and joined the Deeside Bck595, the family vessel, following his studies at Gray's.
The 'Three Kings' are rocks in Cullen Bay . The 'Conjuror' is the bird, based on the dead skraths (cormorants) that are often washed up on the shore. The triangular shape at the skrath's head represents a golden halo as used in early Renaissance or Icon paintings.
Now George lives and paints in Portland, Oregon.
