Description:

Artist's statement:
"I started this painting before the French terrorist attacks. My initial intention was to convey the figures hidden identity is he the victim of terrorism or the perpetrator? There is much ambiguity in the narrative of the painting. However, after the French attacks I felt it appropriate to define the narrative of the painting by adding a French flag to the figure's top. The title of the painting and the words tattooed on the reflection of the man in the mirror are by 18th-century French poet and philosopher Charles Baudelaire. The words add weight to my image in that we should look deeper at ourselves."
