Object Type: Architectural Project Work
Artist/Maker: unknown
Date: 1969
Media/Materials: card
Dimensions: overall: 51.2 cm x 63.8 cm
Classification: Architecture
Description:
A sketch in pencil showing a perspective view of a street detailing the fronts of 3 1/2 buildings of various sizes including a rounded building at the far end. Work is marked BISHOP'S PALACE on the back of the sheet. Research shows that this name is the name of the rounded building. The Bishop's Palace is the oldest surviving example of domestic architecture in Kirkwall. It was begun in the 12th century, but was in ruins by 1320. It was reconstructed between 1541 and 1558. This is part of the Village Urban Analysis Study undertaken by Second Year architectural students in academic session 1968-69. Project was once housed in a cover constructed from a cardboard box, but due to the space available/condition of the card, it has not been placed inside plastic wallet.
