Artist's statement:

Often without exception, visual paradigm is the prevailing condition in modern city planning, that focuses on the reward to the eye often neglecting the remaining senses. This focus on the visual relationship between artefact and vewer, is a product of modern occular bias. It has been argued by Pallasmaa (2005), that cities within a historical contect were not soley associated with the visual, they had been focussed towards functional and the human scale, creating a softer feel to all the senses involved and a heightened multifaceted relationship through a 'multi-sensory experience. As a direct reaction to these biases of the modern city this project intends to use the historical layer of this city block to re-interpret and create a cohesive whole in relation to human scale and speed.
