Description:

Plan of Cumberland Fort at Aberdeen built 1746. Work shows ground plan as well as profile to the works. This was a William Adam-designed building completed in 1732, and lay empty until funds were sufficient to complete it as a hospital. During the Jacobite Rising, in 1746 the buildings were commandeered by Hanoverian troops and named Fort Cumberland. Item is a black and white copy from the map collection at the National Library of Scotland. Date given is for the original, not the reproduction.
