Description:

Post Graduate Student Housing- RGU, Garthdee

The brief called for the design of student housing for 180 students, to be located on our university campus in Garthdee. We were asked to design under the theme of critical regionalism, by tying the building to it’s place through material exploration and traditional forms.
The scheme is based around the formation of the historic castle keep. The buildings cluster around the landscape, enclosing semi private land with two large towers rising out of the ground to “defend” the residential campus. The façade panels are reminiscent of the granite walls that litter the city, where fragile elements of uniquely sized granite combine to create a massive defensive façade.
