ARTIST STATEMENT
Craftsmanship:
In the design of the luthier’s workshop, the main considerations were that the existing building be retained and its character preserved or enhanced. Any new extensions had to be sensitive to the scale and materiality of the existing and surrounding buildings. The key design driver was the requirement of a space to allow efficient marketing of the workshop and hence their valuable products. The functionality of the process involved to make the unique hand crafted instrument was also an important factor.
