Ways Of Mapping
Collection: Gray's School of Art Collection
Object Type: Painting
Artist/Maker: Jamieson, Sarah
Date: 2014
Media/Materials: acrylic on MDF
Dimensions: overall: 25 cm x 320 cm
Awards: RGU Drawing and Painting Purchase Award
Classification: Drawing and Painting
Artist's statement:
"My work has focused on the idea of place through map-making and the language that maps deploy. In my practice I have been exploring the idea of an ever-changing place using organic patterns, subtle colour changes and geometric shapes to represent the terrain. I create new boundaries in order to suggest a broader landscape and to represent the geography of the land. Like a cartographer, I use a process of selection taking the three-dimensional world as represented in a two-dimensional map and then transforming it back into a new three-dimensional piece which becomes the source and starting point for my work."
