Description:
The cast is taken from a relief by the Nuremberg sculptor Adam Kraft. It is one of seven Stations of the Cross that he executed to mark the route of burial processions in Nuremburg in the 1490s.This relief depicts the Lamentation over the dead body of Christ. The Seven Stations reliefs are now the property of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg.
The German museums were producing plaster casts of their objects for sale from the mid-nineteenth century onwards.
