Description:

Statement:
My practice is concerned with trying to reconcile the distance and delay that is present when we speak to one another. Conversations are places of invention and it is their inherent nature, one of chance, accident and error; their form, processes and the technology that facilitates them that my work explores. By observing these performed everyday acts, often in sites of informal encounter, I recognise how, through cycles of repetition and revision we begin to define our identities, cultural spaces and choose to become known. In the midst of an exchange the border between speakers blurs, each participant holding the ability to make or remake the other. It is a practice of keeping yourself in a permanent state of awareness, change and flexibility. It is a condition of movement.

With made and found objects, I create interventions to facilitate conversation. These interventions act as both works and research to question the boundaries between making and presentation. Informed by ideas of archive, the digital, and narrative structures, I see my self as a recorder, preserving the experience. The work follows the undetermined nature of conversation, its trajectory shifting with every encounter. It is an ephemeral art and I embrace the inherent futility in recapturing these encounters. Rather, through these attempts, I aim to interrupt transient environments, creating places of pause and recognition.
