Artist's statement:
"I was profoundly inspired by the country of Finland following a brief spell of living and studying there.
From the land to the architecture, collapsed cabins in the forests, endless rows of birch trees against
a piercing blue sky to the sound philosophies of the people, Finland found a way under my skin.
In commencing my final collection I chose to explore the memories that I retained of the northern landscapes.
I was transfixed with recreating a sense of place through textiles. Through exploring tactility and colour I aimed
to rebuild the experience of walk through the Finnish landscape and add the element of transience.
I wove houses based on the unique wooden buildings that dot the fields and printed chunky shed mats thus
creating pieces that had suggestions of another place at another time."
