Description:

A large scale composition in oil by Royal Scottish Academician Sandy Fraser. The composition and the Royal Scottish Academy show in which it was exhibited, evokes recollections, travel and graphic themes, some of which have featured in prior works by the artist. Juxtaposed imagery of birds, elephants, self portraits and inspirational objects are balanced on a loosely painted background, leading the viewers eye from one curious playful image to another. The composition demonstrates a wonderful balance and careful placement of graphic components.

Alexander Fraser studied at Gray's School of Art between 1958 and 1962. He later became senior lecturer in Drawing and Painting at the School. His work is often inspired by memories of foreign travel and his native Aberdeenshire. He is a noted portrait artist, with works held in the National Galleries of Scotland collection.
