This figurative still life showing a still life set-up with easels and tables in the background represents a studio interior in Gray's School of Art.

The still life room was equipped with a rack and rail system for storing students' still life set-ups. This composition shows the metal stands which were used to hang each student's still life composition. When their class was finished, the still life set-up would be stored intact and out of harm's way until the student returned to continue the painting during the following week.
