Description:
4/4 of a series of close up photographs of traditional Fair Isle pattern jumpers from the Scottish Knitwear Series. Text reads:
Man’s sweater, hand knitted in Bigton, Shetland.
This unusual fairisle is copied from a sweater, circa 1890, in the collection of the Shetland Museum, Lerwick. The 9 and 5 row patterns are repeated throughout the garment; only 2 colours are used in the ribbing. As in all true fairisles the sweater is hand knitted in the round and has now side seams.
