Following graduation from Gray's School of Art and a year at Hospitalfield John undertook teacher training in Glasgow. He subsequently taught in several secondary schools
and later part-time in Further Education and Glasgow School of Art. (Life Drawing)
Having enjoyed some success in portraiture he gave this up time and it was only later in his career that he became well established.

Fastidious in all that he did, he painted portraits, figure compositions and vibrant still life, up until his untimely death from cancer in 2001.Life painting. Reclining female nude seen between two easels in the studio.
